Aboriginal Supported Child Development Support Worker - Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen
Job Summary
• To provide support to designated child/children with extra support needs in the Delta area to ensure inclusion within childcare facilities; preschool, daycare, and school age care settings.

Qualifications
• A minimum of completed post-secondary training program for working with children with special needs. A validated Early Childhood Education Special Educator Certificate and a license to practice in British Columbia issued by the British Columbia Child Care Licensing Board preferred
• Minimum 3 years experience in an inclusive childcare setting and/or community service sector. A demonstrated working knowledge of family centred service, early intervention, child development, family support and community based services
• A valid emergency child care First Aid certificate
• A clear tuberculosis test and immunization booster
• A clear criminal record check
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Commitment to ongoing professional development
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook
• Familiarity with Aboriginal culture, language and traditions an asset and ability to relate well with Aboriginal children and families, as well as knowledge of social-economic issues effecting urban Aboriginal families and families on reserve
• Experience in implementing an individualized plan to support a high risk child/ren with special needs
• Working knowledge of early childhood developmental stages
• Adaptability when designated to a variety of community placements
• Hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license and have own vehicle
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Work as a part of a team to support children with extra support needs to fully participate in child care settings
• Contribute to the development and implementation of individual support plans for children that reflect the choices and priorities identified by their parents
• Support capacity building with the Aboriginal community and contribute to the development of inclusive communities
• Establish and maintain current ECE Best practices
• Work as a team member to provide culturally appropriate daily experiences that support and promote the development of children within their settings
• Provide support to a variety of children within a variety of settings in Delta, as outlined and directed by the needs of the Delta ASCD programme
• Encourage and model social interactions with the children and peers and utilize strategies outlined in the child’s individual support plan
• Participate in on-going evaluation of plans, goals and objectives of the ISP’s and participate in team meetings
• Complete observations and informal assessments as designated by the child’s individual support plan
• Maintain regular contact with the child’s family, complete daily notes and prepare monthly reports as required
• Develop and maintain warm, caring, responsive and consistent relationships with the children you work with
• Participate in ongoing professional development when and where available and maintain confidentiality
